HOW TO: Hem Your Jeans in 5 steps
Hem your jeans like a pro, without losing that worn denim finish. Follow these 5 easy steps and click on the video or follow us on instagram to see how its done..
For these steps you need a sewing machine, needles for denim/heavy fabrics, sharp scissors, thread measuring tape and some pins.
Pin the jeans at the new length and cut legs here.
Save those hem lengths and unpick the stitch.
Measure 1cm from the original stitch line and cut here.
Reattach the new hem to the correct leg (right sides together).
Fold seam allowances toward each other, inward and wrap the hemline around itself. Top stitch in place!
A couple of pointers to take note…
Check the circumference of the originally opening to the new leg opening. If the difference is more than 1cm this won’t work. So, if your jeans have a tapered leg an you are fitting quite a lot out, this may not apply.
Denim can be very tricky to sew with because of its weight and thickness. Make sure you have the proper sized needles and always walk the needle through those thick side seams avoid breaking and jamming.
Good luck!
